Hello CCSD1 Rawlins Parents/Guardians,
The recent days of school which were canceled due to inclement weather and unsafe conditions will be made up on Friday, March 10, Monday, April 10, and Tuesday, May 30. This will mean that Friday, May 26, will be a regular day of school and Tuesday, May 30, will be 1/2 day for students and 1/2 day for staff to have their end-of-year check out at their work sites.
I want to thank everyone for their patience and understanding as we reschedule things due to the severe weather we have experienced this winter. We appreciate your support and recognize the impact these events have had on our families throughout our community.
Feel free to contact your child's building or me should you have any questions.
Sincerely,
Mike Hamel

Atentamente,
Mike Hamel

Hello CCSD1 Rawlins Parent/Guardians,
I want to start by sharing my gratitude to the City of Rawlins workers and the CCSD1 Maintenance and Operations Department. These folks have worked exceptionally hard over the past 48 hours and have made a lot of progress to help keep our town and our school campuses safe.
That being said, the only roads in town that are predictably passable are the emergency routes, and even some of them are still quite treacherous in some places. In speaking with the head of the streets crew, I have been told it will be Saturday or Sunday before secondary routes (bus routes) are cleared.
The weather forecast is favorable for the next few days and the best thing in terms of safety for our students, our staff, and our community, in general, is to keep as much traffic as possible off the roads, let the crews continue to do the admirable work they have done thus far, and resume normal school activities next Monday, February 27.
Due to the progress which has been made, and due to the limited scope of impact, activity/athletic teams will be allowed to travel or host events should the roads be open and should they be able to do so safely.
I encourage everyone to limit their travel as much as possible, spend time making sure your homes are dug out and safe, and we will see everyone on Monday.
Thank you,
Mike Hamel

Hello CCSD1 Parents/Guardians for Rawlins Students,
Our current storm is not forecast to subside until sometime early tomorrow morning. Given the amount of snow, wind, and wind chills forecast for tomorrow, combined with the amount of time it will take to clear routes and have travel within the city return to a safe status, I am canceling school for tomorrow, Thursday, February 23.
I am encouraging everyone to stay inside as travel, even within city limits, is not safe at the present time. All practices and competitions will also be canceled except those teams that traveled earlier in the week and are already at their competition venue.
A make-up date will be announced at a later time.
